Being an English teacher means I listen to and appreciate all types of
words. And believe me, I've heard many types of words...especially
teaching in the upper grades.
Have you ever said, “Don’t listen to that statement…those are only
words” Or, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”.
Words can be used to empower another human being as easily as they can destroy
ones self-perception.
Words used alone are applied simply to label, mark, and identify objects.
Words can distinguish the tone or mood of an author. We use words to identify actions as well as
character traits of antagonists and protagonists in both literature and
movies.
Words can make us cry from laughter, or cry from sorrow.
